Halo Therapy

Halotherapy, or salt therapy, involves breathing in air infused with tiny salt particles to improve your breathing. Put your feet up and unwind under the soft light of our salt lamps, while your body absorbs the benefit of this ancient therapy.
Halotherapy, or salt therapy, involves breathing in air with tiny salt particles to improve your breathing. Halotherapy is considered an alternative treatment for lung problems such as asthma, bronchitis, and cough. Halotherapy is often done in our spa-like salt rooms. This therapy can also help you relax and may help with skin conditions and allergies‍

‍The History of Halotherapy

‍In the 12th century, the practice of visiting salt caves for therapeutic reasons, or speleotherapy, was common in Eastern Europe. In the 1800s, salt miners in Poland found a more modern version of what’s now halotherapy. Despite working in mines all day, the Polish miners didn’t have any respiratory conditions and were unusually healthy. They weren’t likely to get the colds or coughs that were common among other people .‌Research showed that the salty air the miners breathed helped keep their lungs free from infection and allergies. Over time, Eastern European salt mines or caves became popular tourist destinations. People from all over the world visited to inhale the salty air and ease their lung problems.

Types of Halotherapy

Salt therapy at Hinterland Float and Wellness is done in our salt rooms. This room has a machine called a halogenerator, to which salt is added. The equipment breaks down the salt into tiny particles that circulate in the room. This allows the small dry salt particles to spread in the air and enter your lungs and skin. This is known as an active salt room. Passive salt rooms have salt lamps or salt blocks and achieve a much lower level of benefit.

Health Benefits of Halotherapy

‌Studies have found that halotherapy can have benefits for respiratory conditions, skin problems, and allergies. Salt is a natural and safe ingredient. It does not have any notable side effects. It is also:
Mucoactive, clearing up mucus from your airways
Antibacterial, helping prevent infections
Anti-inflammatory
Immunity-boosting
Anti-allergic‌

Research has found that because of these properties, halotherapy can be used as part of the treatment of a range of respiratory conditions. It can also be used to help ease breathing problems caused by illness, and increasing the amount of oxygen in your blood. Tiny salt particles used in halotherapy can also help repair your skin cells and protect your skin from aging and infection. Halo therapy can also assist in easing symptoms of:
Acne and rosacea
Skin allergies
Rash
Eczema
Psoriasis
Dermatitis
Fungal infection such as onychomycosis
Wrinkles and signs of aging skin

Some conditions may not be suitable for halo therapy. If in doubt consult you GP or speak to our team to confirm if halotherapy is right for you.

I loved the 60-minute magnesium float and 45-minute halo therapy combo.
As a reflexology therapist my body needed the complete reset in a tranquil environment.
I will be rewarding myself with a monthly combo from July onwards. So Worth It!

Lovely tranquil space in Maleny. Had a massage with the wonderful Bec, who was one of the most intuitive practitioners I've ever had. Definitely considering the salt room or float for my next visit!

This place is truly relaxing from the moment you enter. The owner Deb, has made it an oasis of comfort and calm. The float tank is my favourite I think. I fell asleep within the first 10 minutes of a 50 minute float. I also experienced the salt and infrared sauna, these therapies are excellent for health as well. I recommend you try them all! Thank you
I just had a 60 min float + 60 min signature massage by Phoebe. Deb & Phoebe are literally making magic and creating a better world, one hour at a time.

Oh my what a find - I almost don’t want to share the secret! 🤩 My husband and I were staying nearby and were able to secure a last minute massage. It was sublime! Thank you Bec! We got to see the float pools and then added on a salt cave therapy to our experience! What a treat. I felt incredible. We will be back. Thank you Debra. Your place is stunning and service exceptional. Wow.
